What to Expect: Pre-Operative Phase

Before you embark on your journey to enhance your natural beauty with facial implant surgery, you will have a personalized consultation with Dr. Manolakakis. This initial meeting is more than just a discussion—it's an opportunity for you to share your goals, hopes, and expectations for the procedure in a compassionate and supportive environment.

During this consultation, Dr. Manolakakis will take the time to truly understand your unique facial structure, examining details such as your skin type, bone structure, and facial symmetry. This careful and thorough evaluation allows Dr. M to determine if facial implants are the right choice for you, ensuring that the procedure will be tailored to meet your specific needs and aspirations.

During this period, you will also receive a series of pre-treatment instructions.

What to Expect: Operative Phase

You’ll be put under general anesthesia, so you’ll be completely comfortable throughout the surgery. The location of the incisions will depend on the type of implant and the area being treated. Dr. M. will create a small pocket in the area where the implant will go and carefully place it, making sure it’s positioned correctly and evenly. Sometimes, sutures or small screws are used to secure the implant. Once everything is in place, the incisions will be closed with sutures. If the incisions are inside your mouth, they’ll be closed with dissolvable stitches. Any external incisions will be closed with stitches that are usually removed after a few days. The length of the surgery can vary depending on your specific needs, but typically lasts between 1–2 hours.

What to Expect: Post-Operative Recovery and Care

After surgery, you’ll be taken to a recovery area where the team will monitor you as you wake up. Your face may be wrapped in bandages to help reduce swelling and support the new contours. Applying cold compresses can help ease any swelling or discomfort. You may experience some discomfort, but prescribed pain medication will help manage it. It’s normal to have swelling and bruising around the implant area, and these effects usually fade within about two weeks. Keeping your head elevated and using cold compresses will help speed up recovery.  If non-dissolvable stitches were used, they’re usually removed within 7–10 days. Avoid touching or rubbing the incision sites while they heal. If you have incisions inside your mouth, you might be advised to stick to a soft diet to avoid irritating the area.

Everyone’s recovery is different, but most people can get back to their usual activities within 2–3 weeks. For a few weeks, you’ll need to avoid activities like bending over, lifting heavy objects, or doing anything strenuous that puts strain on your facial muscles. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and contact sports for at least a month. Most people can return to work or normal activities within a week to 10 days, depending on how they feel and their job requirements. You’ll have check-up appointments scheduled with Dr. M. to monitor your healing and address any questions or concerns.
