Facelift Types Compared: Which One Fits You Best?

The right facelift approach depends on your concerns, your skin quality, and the result you want to achieve, whether it’s a subtle refreshment or more complete correction.

Full Facelift

A full facelift addresses visible aging across the mid-face, jawline, and neck by lifting deeper tissues and removing excess skin. This method works best for moderate to advanced sagging, refreshing your look for long-lasting rejuvenation.

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift addresses early signs of aging, particularly mild jowling and lower facial laxity. This option is best if you want a noticeable but understated refresh with less downtime than a traditional facelift.

What to Expect

Pre-Operative Phase

Before your facelift, you’ll meet one-on-one with Dr. Manolakakis office for a private consultation focused on your goals. During this visit, Dr. M. will evaluate your facial anatomy and skin to determine candidacy and create a personalized surgical plan. You’ll also review important pre-op steps, including medical evaluations, medication guidelines, lifestyle adjustments, and recovery planning.

Operative Phase

Your facelift is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. M. will place discreet incisions based on the type of lift being performed, allowing underlying tissues to be repositioned, excess fat to be addressed, and skin to be redraped. Incisions are closed with sutures, often dissolvable. Surgery typically lasts between 3–6 hours, depending on your treatment plan.

Post-Operative Recovery and Care

After surgery, you’ll rest in recovery while our team monitors you until you’re fully awake. It’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort, all of which can be managed with prescribed medication. You may be asked to wear a compression garment or dressing to support healing, and Dr. M. will guide you on exactly how and when to use it. Sutures may dissolve on their own, while any non-dissolvable sutures or staples are usually removed within 7–10 days.

Most patients begin returning to everyday activities within 2–3 weeks. During early healing, you’ll need to avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and bending. Follow-up visits will be scheduled so Dr. M. can check your progress, answer questions, and make sure your recovery is going smoothly.
