What is Sculptra?

Crafted from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a substance as biocompatible as it is effective, Sculptra is designed for those who seek a sophisticated solution to deeper wrinkles, folds, and age-related volume loss. Unlike traditional fillers that offer immediate effects, Sculptra’s results are a gradual revelation, building a lasting foundation of youthfulness and resilience.
At Advanced Facial Surgery, Sculptra is more than a treatment—it’s an invitation to experience the very best in customizable facial rejuvenation. Here’s how Sculptra is effective in facial rejuvenation:

What to Expect: Pre-Treatment Phase

The first step in a Sculptra treatment is a comprehensive consultation  with dual board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgeon and the director at Advanced Facial Surgery, Dr. Manolis Manolakakis, DMD, FACS. During this consultation, Dr. M. will review your medical history, including any conditions that could affect the procedure or recovery, such as autoimmune disorders or allergies. You will both discuss your goals and expectations for the treatment and examine your facial anatomy to determine the most suitable injection sites. Dr. M. will explain the Sculptra procedure, potential risks, and expected outcomes. You will also receive pre-treatment instructions.

What to Expect: Treatment Phase

Your Sculptra experience at Advanced Facial Surgery is designed to be both serene and seamless, allowing you to indulge in a moment of self-care. The treatment is a delicate process, typically completed within 30 to 60 minutes, and carefully tailored to meet your unique needs. The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or impurities. A topical numbing cream or local anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort during the injections. Dr. M. uses a fine needle to inject Sculptra into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer of the skin. The number of injections and the exact sites depend on your specific needs and the areas being treated. Dr. M. may gently massage the treated areas to distribute the product evenly and prevent the formation of nodules.

What to Expect: Post-Treatment Recovery and Care

Patients are typically instructed to massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times a day, for five days post-treatment. This helps to ensure even distribution and prevent nodule formation. Mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites are common and usually subside within a few days. Patients can use arnica gel or take arnica tablets to help reduce bruising. Applying cold packs to the treated areas can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Patients should avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas beyond the prescribed massages. Any mild discomfort can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen. Patients can usually apply makeup to cover any bruising or redness after 24 hours.

The effects of Sculptra are not immediate. Gradual improvement occurs over several months as collagen production increases. Most patients see noticeable results within three to six months. A series of three to four treatment sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart, is typically recommended for optimal results. Regular follow-up appointments with the practitioner can help monitor the results and determine if additional treatments are needed.
